Reading glasses

Image
Ever since I got my newest scleral lenses I have had to wear reading glasses with hem as well.  The eye doctor told me he couldn’t correct for it……it isn’t due to my keratoconus, but instead is just due to getting older.  The hardest part is the fact that I don’t need reading glasses at all times, which means I often forget them at home.  This causes all sorts of problems when I am out and need to be able to read something.  For example, when I go to a restaurant I often cannot read the menu which is frustrating.  Add dim lighting like some places have and I am completely sunk.   Yesterday I went online to see what I could find.  I wanted to find portable type glasses that are small enough to fit in my purse.  I found one better.  They are very thin and tiny reading glasses that fit in the space of a credit card.  You can also get a case that fits on your keychain.  I wasn’t sure which power or strength I needed but I saw one company was offering their kit online for only $20.  The

I just don’t get it. Know what you are getting yourself into

This post is a little bit of a frustration/rant about freeze drying and freeze dryers and the people who buy them without doing their homework.  There are a lot of factors that can go into having one.  It isn’t something that one should buy without knowing what they are getting themselves into.  For example, before I purchased mine I did my homework.  I read about them.  I joined groups to learn about them.  I watched many youtube videos, and I took lots of notes.  I read about the problems people have…..the solutions they have come up with……but most of all I learned to read the manual and trust the process because a lot of times it is user error or inpatients that gets them every single time.   Some of the issues I have seen people have…..they get their machine and go to set it up, but don’t read the manual and/or understand how to set it up. They set it up wrong and don’t plug the pump into the machine.  Common sense tells you if the pump isn’t plugged into the machine then how the

I finally did it!

Back in August of 2021 I started to have very regular and intense pain in my hip.  Before this I had pain off and on, but in August it was almost nonstop and at times so intense I would cry when trying to get up and/or move.  I blamed it on the fact that I had just opened the daycare and was working and moving way more than I had in a long time, and the fact that I am getting older.  The pain got worse and worse.  I kept pretending I was going to be okay, but we all knew it was bad.  When I closed the daycare in March I thought for sure things would be better.  I gave myself lots of time to heal, but nothing was happening.  I ended up finally scheduling an appointment with my doctor, who then sent me to see an orthopedic doctor.  Saw her and she wanted me to get a cortisone shot.  I had heard such awful things about them and really struggled with the decision. After talking with the doctor we decided to try physical therapy first.  I was going several times a week…..my therapist was

Canning, freeze drying, and freezing….super busy

I have been super busy lately with canning, freeze drying, and making freezer foods for my family.  I have been trying desperately to make healthier options for foods, and to make sure I have easy stuff I can pull out of the freezer or from the pantry for when I don’t feel like actually cooking. While this isn’t totally necessary I made my own coffee creamer from a recipe I got from my son in law. It is peppermint mocha and it is so delicious!!! I also made turkey soup for all of the kids.  While these are in canning jars they were not “canned,.”  I simply used these jars for easier transportation and for less waste since they can return them to me when they are done and I can use them again. Then there is the applesauce.  I have been using flash food to get my fruit super cheap, and ended up spending $10 for two boxes of apples which ended up making 8 quarts of applesauce.  I did some without added sugar and some with sugar and cinnamon. Then yesterday Brad decided to take my job an
