I did it - gardening

 

 Yesterday I said I was going to go to menards and look into buying growing bags, and try to grow a late crop of vegetables that would still grow.  I found these black bags, and bought six of them.  In the four you see here I planted a potato that I found in my kitchen growing eyes.  From what I read online the potatoes need at least two eyes formed.  This potato had 8 so I was able to cut it into pieces and plant them.  

In the other two blog bags I decided to give beets and onions a go.  Not sure if they will work out because I am starting from seeds, but all I can do is try.  If I don’t try, I won’t know.  I also have a pot that I transplanted some plants Brad had growing in the house.  Not really sure what they are and how much space they need, so again……we will see what happens.  

Now is a funny that happened in the store.  I was shopping and had my earbuds in.  Suddenly I see out of the corner of my eye some guy talking to me, so I pop out an earbud and he asks me if I need any help (I check…..he isn’t a worker), and I told him I was doing alright by myself.  He then tells me he will be around if I need his help, and that I was pretty.  Ummmm, does that pick up line really work?????  Every single time I looked up he was still standing there at the end of the aisle.  It was actually kind of creepy.  


Of course, I ended up buying way too much.  This was my cart by the time I left the store.  Six cloth bags for planting in, eight bags of top soil, and two very large bags of potting soil.  I thought this stuff was going to kill me as I tried to load it into the car.  Thankfully when I got home I got help from Brennan and Genavieve.  They carried everything to the back yard.  

Next year I will do all of this right and will have a raised garden with a cute path going down to my garden……I can’t wait, and I just hope Brad can turn my vision into a reality.  I told him what I want, and now it is up to him to figure out how to make it work.

Does anybody like…..

 I find it absolutely hilarious when I am in online PKU groups and people post “does anybody like……” and they name a low protein product.  Why do I find this hilarious you might ask?  Because everyone has their own personal preferences, and you can have ten people say they like it and ten people say they don’t.  Heck even in the same family you can have one person like something and someone else not.   For example…..in my family I am the only one out of a family of 11 that doesn’t like tomatoes.  My entire family, and I think even most (if not all) of the significant others and my grandson likes tomatoes, but I hate them.  I think they are slimy and disgusting and make me gag.  So if I were to say, “does anyone like tomatoes” I would find some do and some don’t but then when I would try them I would find them disgusting.   Another example, is two of my daughters with PKU love the Daiya cheese, and one of them absolutely finds it disgusting. ...

Trying something new

 For anyone who knows me they know I have never been one to really drink alcohol……even when I was younger I never really drank.  Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I became a mother very early in life.  Right out of high school I found out I was pregnant, and took that responsibility very, very seriously.  I vowed to do what was absolutely the best for that baby, and I always did.  For me that meant never going out (I mean this literally…..the first time I ever sat at a bar was with my mother-in-law before a Cher concert).  I have never been the type of person to have wine with my dinner…..nothing.  My life was pretty much focused on my kids (it still is). Right around the time hubby left for his travel job I decided I wanted to have a margarita (on the rare occasion I had a drink on vacation I found I like margaritas), so I bought all the stuff to make one.  When the adult children saw I had alcohol in the refrigerator...

A busy day for me

  I have been reading so much lately about the benefits of bone broth.  Supposedly it is supposed to help with inflammation so with that in mind I decided it was time to try something new.  I brought home the turkey carcass from Breanna’s house (Thanksgiving) and got it cooking.  I had to use two slow cookers because there were so many bones.  They cooked for well over 48 hrs and then came the straining.  First I pulled out all the larger bones and set them aside.  While I did that Brad started pulling bits of meat out of the pot and putting it on the side.  Apparently he made dog treats out of it.  Then I strained it and it went into the refrigerator to sit so it could get cold and the fat could congeal.  Today I took them out and skimmed the fat off the top and put them in pint sized canning jars.  Some went into the refrigerator (those I will use in the next few days) and then others i put into the freezer.  Next time I thin...
