It’s cold outside, so time to stay indoors……

  It is cold outside so that means staying indoors and finding something to do.  I decided to work on food storage prep.  I have lots of peppers in the freeze dryer.  Unfortunately I screwed something up and my screen froze on the machine so I had to unplug it and restart it.  Had that not happened it would have been done this morning when I work up.  

Brad and I checked out he Flashfood app this morning and found several produce boxes listed.  We went in and got three of them.  This gave us a bunch of apples, oranges, and bell peppers.  I  decided to cut up apples and put some of those in the dehydrator.  I also cut up some to make homemade applesauce which I am going to can when done.  


I cut up all most of the bell peppers, and am dehydrating those in the oven.  While I was cutting them up Penny kept coming by me and waiting for me to drop a pepper.  When she got them she quickly ran off with it.  Of course, very quickly Lola and Lilly realized what was going on, and they joined in and wanted some.  I ended up with a tray of red peppers, a tray of yellow peppers, and a tray of orange peppers.  There were also a lot of seeds.  I am not sure how the whole seed thing will work, but I decided to save them and dry them out to see if I can grow peppers from them.  I know that if they are a hybrid they won’t grow, but I am going to give it a try.  Nothing lost but time if they don’t work out and if they do then I will benefit from more peppers LOL

After being gone for six weeks…..

 I left my home in June to attend a wedding, and then from there headed off to my daughter’s house to awake the birth of my grand baby.  I was gone a total of six weeks, and was super stressed out over what would happen to my garden.  This year (my first year doing this) I decided to plant a large (to me) garden.  My husband built me several boxes so that I could keep things orderly.  Everything was planted before I left, and my husband did the best he could taking care of it while I was gone.  When I came back I couldn’t believe how much everything had grown.  Honestly it was a little much for me to see because it was overgrown, there were weeds and it didn’t look anything like I had planned it to be.  That being said we are still getting a lot of vegetables from it.   One of the first things I decided to do was make pickles because we had so many cucumbers.  Yesterday I ran three batches of pickles through the canner.  I had planned on doing more, but my daughter came over so I put i

His next assignment….

 Today hubby was offered a new contract, but this time he would be going to Ohio.  I am so unsure of how I feel about that one.  He will be at least 6 hours away.  He thinks it might be a good idea because it is four 10 hour days which he says would leave him with three days off to be at home.  The problem with that is it will be much further away….the pay is also $200 less per week, and it would definitely mean no driving home after work to see me.  With gas prices as high as they are that has me a little nervous too. Right now he is two hours away and that was hard.  How will I handle six hours away?????   Part of the big problem is I think he is worried about getting the “ideal” job and if he passes one up then a better one won’t come along.  I have to admit I am a little worried about that as well especially since he has to have a new contract signed before this one ends.   Another part of what worries me is that they want to hire him without even interviewing him.  My fear is they
